Top 3 Tips to Make your Kitchen Electrical Pretty
Sometimes when an electrician talks, clients just hear “blah blah, up to code, blah blah.” They just go along with it, because they think they have to. Yes, it is true electricians must follow code to make everything safe and functional. But, you do have some choices when you are remodeling so you can make everything functional AND pretty.
Here are my Top 3 Tips to Make your Kitchen Electrical Pretty:
1) Put your outlets the “Maggie Way”. I have found this to be the best and most cost effective way to get your outlets in your backsplash. There are many cool products on the market, but they can be spendy. Having the electrician place the outlets horizontal is not more work for them, but is MUCH easier to hide with decor or countertop appliances. See the picture above? Just slide that cutting board over and bye-bye outlet!
2) Get an air-switch. I already hear most of you saying “What the heck is an air-switch?!” An air-switch is a way to turn on your disposal with a push button on your countertop. You can pick your finish to go with your fixtures, but I like to pick the color that matches the countertop. This way, you won’t have to cut an extra switch in your pretty backsplash. 3) Splurge a little. There is no way to get away with a kitchen remodel and not make a couple of splurges. If you are really looking for something unique, there are pretty switches for you! Buster & Punch really stands out and are worth the splurge for high-traffic areas.
*Bonus Tip* Remember Smart House (the movie from 1999)? Although, I am still a little scarred by PAT taking over the house, a smart house is truly possible now! You can set your lights for when you come home, for bedtime, for movie watching…you name it! If you are interested in this, start by asking your electrician about the Caseta by Lutron.
Those are my best electrical tips that make a HUGE difference for when you are remodeling. Don’t be afraid to deviate from the status quo or ask if there is an alternative way! There is ALWAYS more than one way to do something.
